Since we began meeting in 2013, The Get Together Bay Area has made the following impact in our community:
The Get Together began as a series of conversations between board members of The Gathering of Men and Barbara Elliott, President of the Center for Renewal in 2002. The Gathering was exploring ways to encourage service to Christ-centered ministries among their members.
After almost a year of discussions about the needs of grassroots, community based ministries and how business people could effectively come along side and serve them, a meeting was set up between several representatives of The Gathering of Men and Sylvia Bolling, Founder and Executive Director of Aldine Y.O.U.T.H. in July 2003. From that meeting came a list of Aldine Y.O.U.T.H.’s needs and a number of ideas on how this group of businessmen could meet them.
Monthly meetings of The Get Together began in August 2003 with about a dozen business people meeting over lunch to discuss ways to meet Aldine Y.O.U.T.H.’s needs through their contacts with those who could offer expertise in a variety of fields and provide in-kind donations.
The Get Together Northwest began in 2008, serving business people and ministries in Northwest Houston. In 2013, The Get Together launched two additional chapters in Brazoria County and the Bay Area.
Through the Get Together network, $3.4 million in in-kind donations of goods and professional services have been provided to ministries across Texas. In addition, over 11,000 hours of volunteer service has been given to these ministries.
The mission of The Get Together-Bay Area is to engage business people in serving Christ-centered ministries using the gifts that God has equipped them with to run their businesses. These gifts include their particular professional expertise, network of contacts and entrepreneurial and life experience.
We accomplish our mission by holding monthly luncheons where business people have the opportunity to build relationships with representatives from local, Christ-centered ministries. A portion of every Get Together meeting is spent presenting the non-financial needs of these ministries and giving business people the opportunity to come up with creative solutions to meet them. Needs are met in a number of ways by the business people including sharing expertise, making contacts on behalf of a ministry, and mobilizing volunteers, just to name a few.
We do not fund-raise for ministries.
Our focus is on getting people involved in serving our community.
By coming TOGETHER, our efforts and resources are multiplied, giving us the capability to have a greater impact on our area.
Become a part of Bay Area history. Join us for lunch.
